DISCLAIMER: I realize in writing this post I'll be partially violating some essence of the post, so please pardon any points of hypocrisy that may follow.
In light of recent events as well as the general progression of things I have grown more and more troubled by the decisions to post/share/comment which flood my newsfeed. One might suggest that I get new friends or delete old ones or even just unfollow some. The reality is that I love and care for the friends/family that I have and would not want that status to change. But friends/family where do we draw the line? The line between speaking our hearts and speaking truth, between a desire for truth and a good ol' hankerin' for gossip, and between gossip and flat out slander. The social mediums of today have become the party-line of old on steriods. Wherein every passing bit of information connected to our personal lives needs must be shared. And if we don't share it no worries, someone else will share it for us and usually in some off-kiltered manner. To which end, a lot of heated faceless words will be exchanged. In an age where we have the most technologically advanced methods of personal communication: face time, skype, phone calls, emails, and texts. We still consistantly feel the need to address people directly or sadly indirectly via public forum on social media. Heaven forbid we speak to a brother or sister in person once, possibly twice, before we open the conversation up to the world.
All I'm asking is that you give extra thought, do some research/vet your sources, and maybe even pray about your future posts, shares, or comments. We have not been very good stewards of these great mediums. Which is sad because we often gripe about the direction television has gone and the manner in which the news is reported. Then on here WE have control and WE have a voice, and dare I say do all the more worse with it. This is not a post of condemnation but rather one of challenge, myself included. Do right by this platform; for yourself, your friends, family, co-workers, bosses and communities (I know of One who would even command that we did right by our enemies). Remember we do not have the fortune of just representing ourselves everytime we click "post" and once it's sent it can't be taken back.
Thank you for enduring this rant about careless ranting, have a blessed day!!
